Dr. Timothy Hiesterman, a fellowship-trained orthopedic trauma surgeon, has extensive experience treating adult and pediatric fractures, the polytraumatized patient, fractures of the pelvis and acetabulum, complex peri-articular fractures, minimally invasive fracture care, and the correction of complications that arise from these injuries. Dr. Hiesterman is committed to keeping abreast of newly emerging techniques and the latest technology, and is a leader in providing the highest standards of operative and non-operative orthopedic care.

In 2010, Dr. Hiesterman was awarded the prestigious Bob Green Memorial Award for achieving the highest score in the country in the written and oral board certification examinations among members of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO). He then pursued additional advanced training by completing an Orthopedic Trauma Surgery Fellowship at the University of Minnesota – Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Dr. Hiesterman joined St. Cloud Orthopedics in 2011.

Dr. Hiesterman has been recognized as an orthopedic leader both locally and nationally. He has authored several journal publications, given lectures and poster presentations at national meetings, and is a contributing author to an orthopedic textbook publication. Dr. Hiesterman serves as a member of the AOAO Editorial Subcommittee and also continues to participate in multiple research studies which shows his commitment to furthering the treatment options for his patients. In 2017, Dr. Hiesterman was appointed Orthopedic Section Director for St. Cloud Hospital.

He has been selected by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery (AOBOS) to conduct oral and clinical examinations for surgeons applying for board certification, and also writes test questions for the written AOBOS board examinations. He is a member of both the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) and AO Trauma North America (AONA), the two leading world organizations dedicated to fracture care. Furthermore, Dr. Hiesterman has been chosen by the AONA to become AO Faculty, educating and training other orthopedic surgeons in modern fracture care principles and techniques.

Dr Hiesterman remains on the front edge of new technological advancements in fracture management, orthopedic surgery, and non-operative orthopedics. This includes cutting edge implants, computer-navigated surgery, and minimally-invasive surgical techniques. Your surgery will be performed with the highest accuracy, in the least invasive manner possible. For you, this means a faster recovery with better outcomes.

Because not all injuries are best treated with surgery, Dr. Hiesterman also offers the most advanced non-operative treatments available including stem cell therapy or regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine is the scientific field that focuses on new approaches of replacing, engineering or regenerating human cells, tissues, or organs to restore or establish normal function. Stem cells have the capacity to transform into bone, tendon, muscle, ligament, and cartilage cells (help to regrow cartilage). This may be particularly beneficial for patients coping with arthritis, but also used in sports injuries, tendon strains, sprained or torn ligaments, muscle injuries, and more. Regenerative cell therapy provides patients who are looking to avoid surgery, with another option (that is non-invasive and safe) that has the potential to significantly improve their pain, function, and quality of life.

Dr. Hiesterman has a holistic approach and philosophy of care is that individualized to each patient’s needs, with a treatment plan created for your unique injury and situation. He and his assistant, Brian Lee, PA-C, strive to provide their patients with the highest quality of operative and non-operative orthopedic care available. Dr. Hiesterman brings his extensive knowledge of musculoskeletal care, orthopedic trauma care, and regenerative medicine to St. Cloud Orthopedics and is accepting new patients by appointment.

Dr. Hiesterman was born and raised in Montana and has a love for the outdoors. He lives in Saint Cloud with his wife and his family. Together they are raising their three charming sons.
