Play it Safe After a Concussion

Concussion awareness has certainly grown in recent years. Unfortunately, the occurrences of concussions have as well. The Minnesota Department of Health estimates that 1,000 athletes between 5–19 are hospitalized for sports-related concussions every year. “Dings” and “bell-ringers” are serious injuries to the brain. Adequate recovery is critical to prevent re-injury. In fact, returning too soon from a concussion has the potential for major complications.

Our Return-to-Sport Concussion Program can help a concussed athlete return at the right time. We’ll closely monitor and work with patients through our five-phased graduated program of exercises designed to help the body and brain recover from a concussion. We never rush a return to activity—advancement within and completion of the program is based on each athlete’s progress and condition.

Don’t risk re-injury and the complications of an early return. Contact Tom Jensen at the Orthopedic Sports Center (259-4141) to learn more about our Return-to-Sport Concussion Program.
